Can you run away to find yourself?
When we first meet Wes (the delightful Jacob Tremblay from Room) he has become strangely obsessed with all things Mongolian. Now, many youngsters are ‘taken’ by their interests: dinosaurs, a hockey hero, a secret friend, but Mongolia? There’s obviously more going on here in Burn Your Maps, and when we meet his parents and start to understand the backstory we get a clearer picture of a possible cause of Wes’ passion. But how to resolve it, all the while helping the family to heal, is what this quirky, well-acted movie is all about.
