Their Finest

It was the ‘Unknown’ War

Sam Claflin and Gemma Arterton in ‘Their Finest’

If it’s true that the first casualty of war is truth, then there’s bound to be a LOT of manipulation of ‘Alternate Facts’ on both sides of the conflict. Their Finest is an interesting take on the British efforts to pump up the war effort and instil pride in the masses all while bombs were raining down on London. It’s an interesting twist with savvy, sassy heroine Catrin (think Kate Hepburn or Jean Arthur)  dealing with men standing in the way of her ambition, whilst the war’s body count mounts. Backed by an outstanding cast of scene stealing Brits like Bill Nighy (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel) and Jeremy Irons (The Borgias), the charm oozes out of this romantic cross between a comedy and drama. In addition, the issue of propaganda certainly acts as a mirror to our own political world and underscores the immediacy of this film.
