Sometimes the state just does some things wrong- and who pays the cost?
I, Daniel Blake is an examination of the effect bureaucracy can have on people, and who better to do that than Ken Loach (The Angels Share, Jimmy’s Hall). In winning this year’s Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, we are presented with a drama of an ailing handyman’s battle to survive after being denied his government health benefits. Most of us at one time or another have come in contact with the faceless, remorseless ‘wall’ that is bureaucracy, and in I, Daniel Blake, Loach reveals it in all its uncaring, dehumanizing apathy. This is a tale of people with excellent acting that will leave no one unmoved.
