Nominated for an Oscar for best foreign film, Rebelle is the harrowing story of a child soldier’s struggle for survival, conceived by Canadian writer and director Kim Nguyen.

Komona (Rachel Mwanza), a girl living in war-torn Sub-Saharan Africa, tells the blood-stained story of her life to the baby in her womb, a child conceived out of hate — a child she prays she can love.

Two years earlier, Komona’s village is invaded by rebels who force her to gun down her own parents before abducting her and sending her into guerilla warfare. When she is haunted by premonitory visions, she is dubbed “War Witch,” a role that brings with it both relative privileges and grave danger.
