The Artist — Monday March 26, 2012

The Artist -- Movie Poster

Winner of five academy awards, including best picture. Click on image to visit this movie's IMDB page.

A love letter to 1920s Hollywood that resurrects silent cinema as a powerful and complex storytelling medium, The Artist was shot entirely in black and white, without dialogue and utilizing a traditional 1.33 aspect ratio.

The tale is a familiar one, of two Hollywood stars on opposite trajectories. George Valentin (Jean Dujardin) is a silent screen idol who is about to lose it all. Meanwhile, aspiring actress Peppy Miller (Berenice Bejo) unexpectedly finds herself the new It-Girl at the forefront of the sound phenomenon.

We predict this Oscar fave is going to sell out, so be sure to book your tickets in advance and/or arrive early.

The Way — March 12, 2012

The Way, starring Martin Sheen and Emilio Estevez

A grieving father completes the journey started by his deceased son. Starring Martin Sheen and Emilio Estevez.

The Way is a touching film about the testy yet unbreakable bond between father and son, and the supportive, almost-familial connections that can form among strangers.

Tom (Martin Sheen, Bobby, The Departed), an American ophthalmologist, learns that his son (real-life scion Emilio Estevez, who also directed and co-wrote the script) has been killed in a freak accident on a pilgrimage along the Camino de Santiago, also known as The Way of Saint James, in the northwest of Spain.

Upon arriving in France to collect his son’s remains and return to the United States, Tom is hit with a profound sense of sadness and quickly changes his plans. Equipped with his deceased son’s guidebook and backpack, he embarks on the 800 km pilgrimage from the Pyrenees to Santiago de Compostela in an attempt to honour his son’s memory by finishing what he had started.

September 26, 2011–A visual poem featuring A-listers Brad Pitt, Sean Penn, and Jessica Chastain.

A family is devastated by the loss of one of its three sons. The fragmented, non-linear narrative shifts between the boys’ suburban 1950s Texas upbringing with their overbearing father and uplifting mother (Pitt and Chastain), a contemporary urban landscape in which the eldest son (Penn) struggles with the scars of youth, and a series of transcendent images from the prehistoric to the cosmic, giving metaphoric scope to their journey.
