Porcupine Lake

“Incredibly deep and natural performances.”

That quote about Porcupine Lake is from filmmaker Jane Anderson, the Emmy Award winner for Olive Kitteridge, and signals the value of movies by writer, producer, and director Ingrid Veninger in understanding the human condition.

This is a complex coming-of-age film dealing with girlhood, first loves and the issues facing today’s young people as they enter adulthood. With the backdrop of a lazy, hazy summer vacation in Northern Ontario, we see the variety of relationships- and their implications- for young Bea. Dealing with the implications of her parent’s difficult relationship as well as the new friendships which blossom, we see the challenges of independence and the passing of childhood.
